After being in development for about 18 months, the launch date of the Xiaomi Mi 5 has been finally announced.
Xiaomi’s senior vice president, Liwan Jiang, stated Thursday that the company will unveil the Mi 5 on February 24 at an event. Although there have been no official announcements from the company regarding the launch of the Mi 5, rumours are rife that the handset will be unveiled during Xiami’s Spring Conference, in the same week that Samsung and LG are expected to announce their flagship phones. Coming to the chipset, it has already been confirmed to be the latest Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm, which has so far only been seen on the LeTV Le Max Pro. The post also offers some details of the Mi 5 briefing event in China. The phone is now under mass production.
As per rumors, it features a 5.2-inch QHD display with a resolution expected to be 1,440 x 2,560 or 1,080 x 1,920.
At a time when every other smartphone manufacturers are launching one device or another in India, all that Xiaomi fans are getting to hear from their favorite brand is the news of price cuts, new updates or leaks about upcoming device. It will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box with Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 7 on top.
At the back, the flagship handset should pack a 16-megapixel photo snapper while in the front the Mi5 will feature an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
For Xiaomi the Mi 5 launch comes at a time when it is facing increasing scrutiny from investors, especially after the world’s most valued start-up missed its own sale target. There could be different variants of the device, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB internal storage with 3GB or 4GB of RAM.
