Harry Kewell is appointed as Watford Under-21 coach
Watford announced the signing overnight as they look to give their younger players the benefit of the former Liverpool, Leeds United and Galatasaray striker’s knowledge.
According to an announcement on the Hornets’ official website, the former Australia global will oversee the youth side as they prepare for life in the Under-21 Professional Development League 2 South.
Watford’s sporting director Luke Dowling is excited about what Kewell can bring to the table.
The Australian retired as a player last year and has been working in coaching in his homeland, running an academy.
Kewell turned out for a number of clubs in his career, but is best known for spells at Leeds and Liverpool.
“His knowledge and experience will be of great benefit to the club’s youth setup as a whole, and the talented players we have within our Under-21 group”.
The 36-year-old who made 139 appearances for the Reds between 2003-08, scoring 16 goals, will take charge of the newly-promoted Premier League club’s second string.
The talented winger won a host of honours throughout his playing days, including a Champions League and FA Cup, while also picking up the PFA Young Player of the Year Award.
Watford have been busy in the transfer market since gaining promotion back to the English Premier League, adding the likes of Sebastian Prodl, Matej Vydra, Etienne Capoue, Valon Behrami and Miguel Britos to their ranks.
