Snow delays Thunder-Nets game until 6:30 p.m.
The Nets look to build on the big win when they return to Barclays Center tomorrow night to host Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat.
The Nets’ 116 points were a season-high for regulation.
Brook Lopez scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and the Brooklyn Nets beat Oklahoma City 116-106 in a game delayed for four hours by a blizzard.
The Thunder has a chance to prove just how hungry it is with two more games on this road trip, first on Tuesday against the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden, then on Wednesday after a long flight to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves.
“They did what they wanted to”, said Durant, who finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in 41 minutes. But not tonight. Not with Brook Lopez leading the charge.
It was as if we were all waiting for the Nets to break your heart once more. “We had a different bounce about us”.
In other action — James Harden had a triple-double of 23-points, 15-boards, and 10 assists as Houston knocked off Dalls.
“Obviously being short-handed without Steve it’s hard for us, but we would’ve liked to have done better against him for sure”, said Nick Collison, who started at center and had just three points and four rebounds.
“A step behind”, Thunder coach Billy Donovan said.
Those showings by the stars were not enough because Oklahoma City could not contain Lopez like Utah did.
“They kicked our (butt) all night”, Durant said.
“They dealt with the same circumstances we had to deal with”, Donovan said. They didn’t trail at any point of the game. Lopez may not be able to carry the Nets to success all by himself though. “He had a big presence in the paint”. We posted him. He had a lot of shots at the rim, got to the foul line. “I always remember being a young kid, always praying for snow so I didn’t have to go to school”. They now rank near last place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 12-33 on the season, according to New York Times.
Lopez, who the Nets almost dealt to the Thunder last season before Oklahoma City acquired Enes Kanter, averaged 28.5 points in the two meetings this season.
Before the game, Durant was asked about the state of the Nets, who don’t have a permanent coach or general manager in place, and don’t have total control over their own first-round pick until 2019.
The Nets built a 78-65 lead on a free throw by guard Donald Sloan with 3:54 remaining in the third.
Adams had an MRI that revealed a sprained right elbow. The injury is not considered serious but he is unlikely to play Tuesday in NY and Wednesday in Minnesota…. Sunday marked the second time the Nets faced Westbrook in Brooklyn. He was hurt in the second quarter when Westbrook missed a reverse layup and fell into Roberson’s knee. In the Thunder’s two visits to Brooklyn without Westbrook, Reggie Jackson was the starting point guard….
