Starbreeze to open VR arcade in Los Angeles
Publisher Starbreeze announced that Overkill’s The Walking Dead is now planned for release in the second half of 2017 instead of sometime in 2016. However, when it comes to OVERKILL’s parent company Starbreeze Studios they have been a little quiet in relation to their own proprietary head-mounted display (HMD) the StarVR. Now it won’t be- now it will be releasing some time next year, as Starbreeze announced today that the game had been delayed to 2017.
Overkills’s The Walking Dead will be expanded with more content where an Asian version will be developed for simultaneous launch with the western version.
Revealed last June at E3 2015, the StarVR headset is notable for its impressively wide 210 degree field of view and whopping 5120×1440 resolution, achieved with dual displays and some intense Fresnel lenses.
For a while, very little information was coming out about Overkill’s upcoming video game based in the world of The Walking Dead.
The Smilegate partnership will also see Starbreeze develop a premium PC first-person shooter based on the Smilegate’s CrossFire franchise, with a focus on appealing to Western players. The aim for both of us is to bring the best from our home markets to new audiences.
“The key I think, which is very important, is that we’re not doing, ‘Hey, it’s Daryl Dixon running around shooting zombies, because you like Daryl Dixon.’ Or ‘It’s Rick Grimes doing this because you like Rick Grimes.’ We’re telling our own stories and doing our own things nearly as if they are original games”.
