Bernie Sanders gets his own ice cream flavor
The ice cream’s barrier supposedly represents the disparity of wealth that has risen to the top one percent since the end of the recession, according to its label. Cohen said the flavor isn’t associated with Ben & Jerry’s, which was sold to Unilever in 2000. Underneath is plain mint ice cream.
The overall sample size is small, as Cohen only made 40 points and 25 of them were donated to Sanders’ campaign. Sanders, who sat as an Independent in the Senate and describes himself as a democratic socialist, mounted a campaign that surprised many, including his main rival in the contest, Hillary Clinton. “Let the ice cream soften up a bit, mix the pieces around-and there you have it, Bernie’s Yearning”. “The company is not involved”.
The ice cream won’t be available in stores.
It has a photo of the smiling politician known for his sometimes unkempt white hair, and underneath it reads: “Open Joyfully, Political Revolution Inside”.
After Ben Cohen’s early ideas about a potential Bernie Sanders flavor gained widespread attention, he chose to actually develop the flavor called “Bernie’s Yearning”, which he’s billing as a “participatory flavor including a graphic description of what’s wrong in our country (in 3D frozen confectionary form)”. The remainder of the pint holds a simple mint ice cream which represents the rest of America, poor and unexciting.
Ben & Jerry’s will not produce the flavor.
Cohen and Greenfield, who have been Sanders constituents in Vermont for over 30 years, have been steadfast supporters of the senator throughout his campaign.
