Lebowski Fest founder arrested at event
Police say a search revealed Russell was in possession of additional marijuana.
Russell apologized to officers later for “acting like a savage”, police said.
The founder of Lebowski Fest, a traveling party that celebrates all things pertaining to the Coen brothers film “The Big Lebowski“, was arrested in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday evening after allegedly smoking marijuana outside a bowling alley where the festivities were being held.
According to The Courier Journal, Louisville local Will Russell was arrested at the Executive Strike & Spare bowling alley for possession of marijuana. Court officials said Russell was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, July 15.
Russell runs the festival for fans of the 1998 movie, whose protagonist, played by Jeff Bridges, loves bowling, pot, and White Russians and is assaulted by the police.
But Mr Russell, 39, later took to Facebook to claim that police “tackled me and drove my face into the sidewalk”. I looked all around and all there was was… “So now I’m going underground”. You should see the scrapes on my knees.
In addition to Funtown Mountain and the Lebowski Fest, Russell also founded WHY Louisville.
Lebowski Fest is slated to take place August 21-22 in Milwaukee, WI with funk outfit Here Come the Mummies.
