Sanders strikes optimistic tone in final Iowa ad pitch
At the event in Iowa Falls, the Vermont senator asked the crowd if anyone knew what it was like to live on $12,000 a year, or roughly the amount a full-time worker would earn making minimum wage. What do you say to her? Well, today at a rally in Iowa, everyone was reminded of that as a woman in the crowd spoke and broke down while speaking to Bernie Sanders.
The entire time she was speaking, Bernie Sanders simply stared at her intently and would sometimes lower his head. And quite honestly, I have to tell you, this probably isn’t going to go over very well, that’s why I like Bernie Sanders.
Sanders added: “You’ve got Republicans going around and saying, ‘We’ve got to cut Social Security, we’ve got to cut it. What people are getting is too much'”.
As the woman finished speaking and started crying even a bit harder.
“The reason that I am laughing is that I fully admit to having a big ego, like many other politicians”, Sanders said. He trails her, however, in national polls. “But the truth is that until millions of people that are experiencing exactly what you guys are experiencing do say that, we don’t make change”. “Bernie Sanders is like, ‘Yep, I’m a socialist'”. From there, Clinton took a jab at Bernie Sanders, and made it seem as if she feels he just isn’t qualified to be President of the United States.
Sanders started off talking about Iowa Caucus, which is now only days away; then explaining the difference between him and the Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton stating he isn’t in favor of the Iraq War, as well as pointing out he isn’t a part of Wall Street. He supports a federal minimum wage and Medicare for all, which his campaign says would go a long way toward eliminating the income and wealth inequality that’s to blame for many of America’s ills.
