$188 Million Lottery victor Marie Holmes Was Charged with Pot Possession Last
Brunswick County women Marie Holmes, recently won a whopping $188 million out of the massive $500 million Powerball jackpot.
Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies cited Marie Holmes, 26, with possession of marijuana, according to BCSO spokeswoman Emily Flax.
The arrest comes after deputies reportedly went to the home to arrest Holmes’ roommate for violating terms of his release.
Detectives also seized a. 45 caliber pistol, and arrested McDow for possession of a firearm by a felon. In court today the state said the gun is registered to Holmes, but that McDow had handled it, which led to the charge.
Two others in the home, Danell Lamont McNeil and Damarius Dontrell Simmons, were also cited for simple possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
She now faces possession of marijuana charges. She said when deputies got to the home McDow shares with Holmes on Boverie Street in the Rutledge neighborhood in Shallotte, there was a strong odor of marijuana inside, so they got a search warrant. During the search, Holmes was cited for having less the a half ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The 26-year-old’s life changed forever when her Powerball ticket matched all six numbers in the February 11 drawing, winning her a third of the $564 million jackpot.
Another man in the home, 23-year-old Jeffrey Antuan Gause, of Shallotte, was arrested during the incident for resisting a public officer. Several children were at the home at the time of the search, she added. He was booked and later released from the the Brunswick County jail under a $1,000 bond. He managed to post bail at a bond set under $3 million.
Holmes, who received a $127 million in a lump sum from the North Carolina Education Lottery in February, stated after victor the cash that she had previously quit jobs at Wal-Mart and McDonald’s to care for her four children, one of whom has cerebral palsy. 2014 on heroin charges.
