In coastal New Jersey, a flood of criticism for Christie follows storm
“I don’t even know what critics you’re talking about”, Christie said in response to a question from The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday. ABC reports that Christie got the numbers of her friends and family, saying he’d personally call them to hear their concerns. “Do you want me to go down there with a mop?” the GOP presidential candidate said at a Monday campaign event in the first-in-the-nation primary state.
Severe flooding devastated sections of the Jersey Shore with Cape May experiencing a record storm surge of more than 9 feet.
The woman asked on behalf of her family and friends at the Shore, “Why are you here in New Hampshire campaigning instead of there, helping to survey the damages done by the coastal flooding from the storm?”
The Herald said it leaned toward a governor for its choice, and picked Christie over Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush because Christie has worked with an opposition party to get things done and has “that Jersey guy attitude – feisty but not mean-spirited, tough but not hateful”. During the segment, a resident also said, “I don’t know how he could possibly say that, I’ve been down here about five years and I’ve never seen flooding this bad”. ‘The water just came right in’.
Christie’s approval rating among New Jersey voters has plummeted since he began his presidential campaign. “There is no flooding damage”. “If I was there, there’d be certain folks who would be complaining about what I was doing, or not doing, based upon whatever their political position is”. He’s down in North Wildwood, which is south of Atlantic City, for those of you who do not have a masters in New Jersey geography as I do. Jeff Van Drew requested that Christie ask the federal government to declare a disaster in two counties that had experienced “historical flooding”.
‘Whether it’s an impending storm or whether it’s the scourge of radical jihadist, you have to make people be safe and secure’.
