Chillicothe women killed; case sparked talk of serial killer
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WCMH)- A Grand Jury has indicted 37-year-old Jason A. McCrary on murder charges for the death of Timberly D.
Authorities investigating the deaths of four women and two others who are missing in the area have targeted heroin traffickers, saying rampant addictions may have contributed to the women’s deaths and disappearances.
McCrary was indicted for murder with a gun specification and as a repeat violent offender after a prior conviction for aggravated robbery.
Authorities had referred to McCrary in June as a “person of interest” in Claytor’s death and at the time tied it in with the disappearance of three other women including Tiffany Sayre, whose body has since been found, Charlotte Trego and Wanda Lemons.
The prosecutor said Claytor, 38, got into a auto with McCrary in the early morning hours of May 29 and that was the last time she was seen before her body was recovered the next morning.
Authorities say they linked him to the crime through DNA found on his shoes and in his vehicle.
Investigators previously said Claytor died from three gunshot wounds to the head, which Schmidt reiterated Friday, adding that the murder weapon is believed to be a.380-caliber handgun.
Ross County now has $100,000 more to fight drugs.
Karhlton Moore, Executive Director of the Ohio’s Office of Criminal Justice Services, led the assembly and explained that Ross County made the best presentation and had the best foundation to put the funds to work. The case is set for trial August. 13, although that event will likely be postponed with the indictment on the new charge.
“I think it helps this moving forward, that he’s not a prime suspect in the others”.
