I was born in India, will die here, says Aamir Khan
Aamir spoke on the issue yet again, when it had settled down and said he had never said India was intolerant, to begin with.
Asserting that no other country is as diverse as India, Aamir said, “I was born here and I will die here”. Khan was speaking at an event to mark the 10th anniversary of his film Rang De Basanti, in which nationalism was a major theme. I also understand the emotions of those who were hurt. I am not surprised they are angry with me.
Mumbai: Actor Aamir Khan has said that his “intolerant” remark was highly misconstrued, adding that his work and contribution to Indian cinema and society showed his love for the nation. What was the need of doing “Satyameva Jayate” for last four years? “She is a women and I respect her. I seriously would like to work with her. I hope that she would also like to work with me”, he said. But, despite this strength, if anybody tries to break us, that hurts me. Aamir’s statement was highlighted in the media and the actor was made a target of much vitriol and abuse.
Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan reacted to the issue of intolerance which intensified after the actor had opined that his wife Kiran Rao wants to leave India due to prevailing circumstances. I think it’s nothing like that. “I love the nation which is why I take up such projects”. I belong to a freedom fighter’s family.
Giving back to all those who criticized him, Aamir Khan concluded his view by opining, “Our country is a attractive example of unity in diversity”. My two sisters are married to Hindus – Farhat is married to Rajeev while Nikhat to Santosh.
