The creators of XCOM: Long War are making mods for XCOM 2
“We’ll have more information about the content of these mods soon”.
XCOM 2 will be officially launching early next month on February 5th and is now available to pre-order via Steam. Nick recently warmed our hearts with news that the mod’s creators had formed their own studio and begun work on an original strategy game called Terra Invicta, but that’s not all.
Firaxis hasn’t been shy about mod development on XCOM 2 and are set to embrace those that come.
Anyway, if you’re not sure why we’re so excited about the potential return of XCOM Long War, you can check out this introduction we put together a year ago.
2K Games and Firaxis Games probably noticed that a lot of people chose to mod the game or to use mods for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, so they went on to do something that hasn’t really been tried until now. Long War Studios made a name for themselves thanks to their work with the earlier XCOM title, and given the quality of it it’s not hard to see why Firaxis are drafting them in. These mods are now slated to be available at launch on February 5, 2016.
The Long War total conversion for XCOM is one of those mods that pretty much defines what good community engagement can do for a game. So chances are in XCOM 2, there’s going to be some sort of hardcore or brutal difficulty mode.
