Twitter just named its new CMO
There’s been executive turnover at the company recently- this week, execs including Twitter‘s product head Kevin Weil, media head Katie Jacobs Stanton, senior vice president of engineering Alex Roetter, vice president of human resources Brian Schipper, and Vine head Jason Toff all stepped down.
Twitter has confirmed that American Express’ Leslie Berland has been appointed as its chief marketing officer.
Berland started working at American Express in 2005 as the company’s vice president of corporate communications.
Berland then replied to Dorsey’s tweet saying she is excited to join the company. It represents everything that’s relevant at each and every moment – to me, there’s nothing more powerful.
Ever since the appointment of Jack Dorsey as the CEO of Twitter, the company has undergone a series of new appointments and this is believed to be an attempt by Dorsey to boost user growth. The company’s base of average monthly active users has not grown fast enough to impress Wall Street.
Twitter has some 300 million users today, so it’s not exactly a minnow.
Frequent management changes, strategy shifts and a sinking stock price had paralyzed the company. On April 7, 2015, Twitter shares hit a 52-week high of $52.87.
Widely respected in the technology industry from her time at the financial services firm, Ms Berland has been recruited from Amex by Twitter chief Jack Dorsey to improve the micro-blogging site’s struggling fortunes, something Mr Dorsey touched upon in his tweet announcing Ms Berland’s arrival.
Twitter is also expected to bring in two new board members as soon as this week, The Wall Street Journal has reported.
