A new CBS News Battleground Tracker online poll shows Trump with a smaller lead over Cruz at 39 to 34 percent, with Rubio trailing at 13 percent. CNN has not independently obtained the video.
As Jeff Ridley stood in line on a cold, windy day for more than an hour with his wife and daughter for a recent rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, he said that he never got involved in politics but was coming off the sidelines this year to caucus for Mr. Trump.

Speaking a week before Iowans head to the caucuses, Cruz characterized the race between himself and Trump as “an absolute dead heat”.
Among Republicans who previously have attended the Iowa caucuses, Cruz led Trump, 31 percent to 28 percent.
That massive swing, in only a few weeks, is at least partially due to the onslaught of doubts about Cruz’s eligibility, as well as the underlying foreigner connotations, but Marco Rubio has also been working Cruz’s body on immigration, a strategy that Trump adopted for his first official attack ad. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has an edge in the Hawkeye State.
“Hey I lived in New York City and Manhattan all my life, so my views are a little bit different than if I lived in Iowa”, Trump said on the “Meet the Press” interview, a quote spliced into the Cruz campaign ad.
But as for engaging in the brutal personal counterpunching that Trump is known for, Cruz was not taking the bait. He warns that if elected president, Trump would be locked in with the political establishment in Washington.
She echoed his catchphrase from The Apprentice as she told worshippers: “Can you imagine eye telling hand, “Get lost, I don’t need you” or hearing the head telling the foot, ‘You’re fired, your job has been phased out?'”.
With most of the Republicans circling each other in Iowa, Chris Christie and John Kasich were searching for votes in New Hampshire, where the GOP base is friendlier to more mainstream, socially moderate candidates.
Third, it’s likely that congressional Republicans would find it easier to work with Cruz than Trump in the White House.
Mr Trump has been a hard target for criticism from his rivals because not all of his supporters are conservatives and many are most interested in his projection of strength, not where he stands on a particular issue.
Quinnipiac surveyed 651 Iowa likely GOP caucus participants from January 18 to January 24 by phone for the poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
Sanders’ continued polling dominance in New Hampshire comes as the race with Clinton in Iowa has tightened, potentially setting up the Vermont senator for a strong opening showing that propels a deeper run into the Democratic primary than many expected.
