College Student Asks Hillary Clinton Why Young Voters Aren’t Enthused About Her
“Don’t get discouraged”, Clinton said.
Clinton had room to maneuver because neither Sanders not O’Malley mentioned Benghazi or emails.
Clinton pushed back on the notion she has a problem with younger voters, despite polls showing Sanders leading her among that demographic nationally and in Iowa.
Hillary Clinton speaks during a CNN town hall Monday.
Sanders has aggressively campaigned on college campuses across Iowa.
In her response, Clinton argued that her political enemies’ arguments about her character may be more believable for young people who are new to politics than older voters who have been paying attention for decades.
“There were times where I think the media probably was a little unfair to her and tilted a little my way in calling her out when she was tough, and not calling some of our folks out as much when we were tough in ads”, Obama said. “And I will pay for that through a tax on Wall Street speculation”, Sanders said.
Clinton handled this by broadening the discussion about inequality, saying she was a fighter against racism, sexism, homophobia, and more. He attacked former Secretary of State Clinton on her vote on the Iraq war, something he was against.
Cuomo also pressed Sanders on whether he had the experience to do the “whole job” of being president, including being Commander in Chief. “It’s hard. If it were easy, hey, there wouldn’t be any contest”.
He did not explicitly endorse a candidate, and mentioned only once in passing former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, who trails in polls.
If we could rewind the clock to 2008, we could hear then-Sen.
At the last shared appearance before the February 1 caucuses, Sanders and Clinton clashed on issues they’ve quibbled over for months.
Conversely, Sanders walked backed a slam he made about Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign – the premier gay rights lobbying group – being part of the “establishment” he is taking on.
Clinton’s campaign will certainly delight at the praise Obama offered her.
Weaver said that Monday night’s event would showcase Sanders’ retail politics skills and flair for interacting directly with voters who are “ultimately the decision makers”.
