Microsoft Releases ‘News Pro’ App for iPhone
The new update to the iOS-based software aims to address this with a single button that posts your shots direct to Facebook (with another quick-access menu available for accessing other sharing apps).
Under the hood, the team explains that the app now uses a new portrait enhancement technique called Digital Face Clean that “intelligently removes undesired features like wrinkles and baggy eyelids, while preserving desired characteristics like hair, mustaches, tattoos and accessories”. Sound familiar to Feedly or Flipboard?
Microsoft has another app made just for iOS, and this one is competing directly with one of Apple’s newest apps. This morning news anchor wakes up at 2am so I live that struggle on a daily basis. Instead, it’s leveraging Bing news to create a feed that will keep you engaged on topics you’re most interested in.
The tagline for News Pro is “hyper-relevant news for your work”, which fits into Microsoft’s corporate-mandated focus on productivity. It’s meant to work best on the smaller screens of iPhone or iPod Touch, but you can use it on iPad, too.
News sources will also be suggested based on your LinkedIn and Facebook interests. The Explore tab allows you to choose from a large list of industries, companies, and products to follow.
Living proof of the success that Microsoft’s experiencing on Apple’s playground is also the Selfie app that the company launched only a couple of weeks ago.
It seems like everyone has a news app on the iPhone these days. That being said, it looks like Microsoft might be trying to tempt iOS users with their own app. As for versions on Android or (logically) Windows 10 Mobile, there’s still nothing concrete, but Microsoft is promising to bring Selfie to “more platforms”.
