Quinton school also evacuated after bomb threat call
Oldbury Academy, George Salter High School and Holly Lodge were evacuated, the BBC reports, while pupils were sent away from Bristnall Hall Academy before the school was re-opened from 11 a.m.
West Midlands Police have now said that Oldbury Academy and Bristnall are among six schools that have been evacuated today.
BOMB threats have been made to six schools – with the lastest named as Four Dwellings Upper School, in Quinton, but police intelligence experts insist there is no credible threat.
Schools in London, the West Midlands, Cornwall and Paris were targeted but it is not known if the incidents were linked. We are supporting the schools with their decision to put the children’s safety first.
The calls were made to 14 schools in three separate regions of the country, including four in London, six in the West Midlands and four in Cornwall.
‘Last week students and schools showed a sensible and rapid response to these threats and that should be the case again today’.
Assistant Chief Constable Carl Foulkes, said: “Police intelligence suggests there is no credible threat behind the calls…they mirror the hoaxes several schools received just a few days ago”. The Metropolitan Police told Mashable meanwhile, that four incidents in the capital were being treated as “malicious communications”.
A number of schools said they would remain closed for the rest of the day.
Anyone with information which may aid officers should call police on 101.
It is the second time within a week the schools have been closed due to security threats.
Angry parents took to social media to complain about the ongoing scares.
Holly Lodge School in Smethwick is also reported to have evacuated children before taking them to West Smethwick Park and sending them home. “To whomever is “bomb threating” STOP IT!”
The local authorities responsible for the schools confirmed they were evacuated to “ensure the safety of pupils”.
