2 dead, 3 wounded in Seattle homeless shooting
Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO-TV reported on Twitter that a police source confirmed that at least five people were shot and two suspects were at large.
Officers were called around 7:15 to a wooded area east of Airport Way near South Atlantic street known as “the jungle”.
Seattle police respond to a shooting. Those two people are believed to have left the encampment.
Three other female victims were also taken to Harborview.
One male died. Two victims were in critical condition, another was in serious condition.
No other details of the shooting and how it occurred were immediately available. SWAT and K9 units were sweeping the area.
All lanes of Airport Way just south of I-90 and north of South Massachusetts St. are closed for the investigation. It is a wilderness area known for multiple homeless encampments and criminal activity, including several murders in recent years. The City of Seattle has swept through the encampment numerous times in the past, but homeless campers often return.
Early reports indicated the victims were homeless people and that they may have been shot in their tents. Check back for updates.
