Arizona political watcher gives nod to Bernie Sanders’ genuineness in town hall
Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The president added: “You’re going to dig into his (Sanders’) proposals and how much they cost and what does it mean, and how does his tax policy work, and he’s subjected then to a rigour that hasn’t happened yet”. And, I just don’t see the same enthusiasm from younger people for you.
Senator Marco Rubio of Florida appeared at a Des Moines rally with Republican Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa, who told the crowd she was not endorsing a candidate but called him “someone who is very near and dear to my heart and a good friend to me”. Joined by Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., one of his top supporters in Congress, Sanders has identified the state as one of his top targets in the so-called “Super Tuesday” states that will award a bevy of delegates after the early contests of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and SC. She volunteers night and day for Sanders at his headquarters in a crowded strip mall on the north side of Des Moines. “My No 1 priority is having a Democratic president succeed me, and I think there’s no doubt that, given our history, I want more women in politics generally, and I want my daughters to feel that there’s nothing that they can’t do”, he said. And thus, Democrats continue their slow, incremental push toward ever more socialism.
Clinton fought back, stressing the central theme in her campaign: Her wide-ranging experience makes her the best candidate. It’s exactly the attractive kind of package her campaign has struggled to project in the final week before Iowa holds its caucuses.
She also repeated her acknowledgement that her Senate Iraq war vote was a mistake.
While never explicitly criticizing Sanders, whose campaign is focused on pledges to redress social inequality and contain Wall Street excesses, Obama praised Clinton’s experience and suggested several times that Clinton’s messages are grounded in realism.
Clinton has been making the case that her time as secretary of state and a senator from NY, make her more experienced. “In fact, I’ve heard from quite a few people my age who think you’re dishonest”.
Obama has not formally endorsed in the Democratic race. “And, as a effect, you know, where they stood at the beginning probably helps to explain why the language sometimes is different”.
“They throw all this stuff at me and I’m still standing”, Clinton said.
Though Clinton remains the Democratic front-runner in many national polls, and leads among older Democratic voters, Sanders remains far more popular among younger Democratic voters.
