Federer reaches 39th Grand Slam semifinal

Nishikori beat the Serb 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4) 6-3. Andy comes into this one having beaten the Spaniard in 9 of their last 10 sets, and 7 of their last 8 head to head matches.

The American superstar handed Sharapova her first quarter final defeat in her last eight appearances at Melbourne Park, adding that it was not an easy game.
