Hillary Clinton steps up attacks on rival Bernie Sanders
When asked about the economy, health care, and foreign policy, Sanders scored the highest at 58 percent on the economy and 51 percent on health care, compared to Clinton’s 36 percent and 45 percent, respectively.
Clinton campaign officials tell NBC News that two key factors propelled Obama to victory over Sanders in 2008: 1) Obama’s ability to galvanize the African-American vote after winning the Iowa caucuses; and 2) Obama’s domination of the caucus contests.
“Senator Sanders and I share numerous same goals, but we have different records and different ideas about how to drive progress”, Clinton said during a tour of Iowa college campuses, where she painted Sanders as too impractical to be president.
As for the ad itself, it’s a great general election ad, and a stark contrast to the hollow warm fuzzies of the Sanders ad, but it shortchanges Hillary and the viewer by completely nullifying the ambition that her campaign has shown thus far. “Iowa matters a ton, but it seems to be the campaign’s only focus”, said one person close to the campaign’s operations in a March state – one of almost a dozen Clinton allies with whom POLITICO spoke for this article.
The rebuttal came after the Vermont senator criticized Planned Parenthood and LGBT organization Human Rights Campaign for officially endorsing Clinton. “Sanders has not thought through these crucial national security issues that can have profound consequences for our security”, the letter said.
New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who introduced Clinton on Friday, alluded to Sanders in saying she had worked with “each of the Democratic candidates in this race”.
The numbers indicate a tighter race than a recent CNN/WMUR poll that gave Sanders a 27% lead over Clinton and reflect the sentiment of New Hampshire voters indicating they are “very likely” to vote in the Democratic primary.
Emily’s List, in fact, sent out a release likening Sanders to GOP politicians, pointing out a quote from his Rolling Stone interview: “Once you get off of the social issues-abortion, gay rights, guns-and into the economic issues, there is a lot more agreement than the pundits understand”.
“No. They aren’t. They’re standing up and fighting the important fights that have to be fought”, he said. Polls show Bernie Sanders gaining ground against Hillary Clinton. Clinton led by 18 last month, 18-point lead in December, now down to an eight-point deficit. Clinton has locked down almost all of the establishment support – governors, members of Congress and Democratic leaders – who can help her in a lengthy primary. So it makes sense that Sanders and Clinton, who are neck and neck in Iowa, are pointing their attacks away from Republican opponents and toward each other.
“I would hope very much that Secretary Clinton would join me in making certain that seniors in this country do not have to live on $12,000, $13,000 a year”, he said.
Stirring, but to Brock’s point, I counted about eight people of color, four of whom were featured prominently, and two of them were black women.
‘We’re going to have to work hard, though.
