British principal tells parents: No pyjamas on school run
School parent Mr Naylor said Ms Chisholm had his support: “It’s disgraceful, we should be guiding our children not giving them bad habits”.
A primary head in County Durham has now decided she must turn her attention to their parents after becoming annoyed by an increasing tendency for them to turn up on the school run in pyjamas.
The difference is that Kate Chrisholm, the head teacher at Skerne Park Academy, complained about the number of parents wearing pyjamas and slippers at the gates in writing.
‘Could I please ask that when you are escorting your children, you take the time to dress appropriately in day wear that is suitable for the weather conditions’.
The letter referred to it as a “pretty poor indictment of the parenting skills of some of our families” as she said many children were getting themselves to school while their parents were still in bed.
Chisholm explained she was hoping her appeal could raise levels of achievement in the classroom.
“I don’t give two hoots how people dress at home, I just think if they’re a good role model for their children and want them to get a job and better yourself then they ought to get dressed”.
“It started with the odd parent turning up in pyjamas and now I’d say there are about 10 on any given day”.
The letter to parents of Skerne Park Academy, asking them to dress appropriately.
“To be at school, whether their mum, dad, grandma, aunty, whoever’s dropping them off is in their pyjamas, slippers, dressing gown, is irrelevant”.
The Principal of a British high school has issued desperate plea to parents who wear pyjamas on the school run. “I have had far more positive responses than negative”.
“We’ve had problems with bullying and that should be sorted out first rather than a letter about this”.
“It’s ridiculous. I don’t know how it’s come to this, that people think it’s okay to nip out of the house in their nightwear”.
Parents said they welcomed the letter.
“I know when I used to drop off my own children, never in my jarmies, but they would say… just drop me off here”.
The school’s clampdown has won widespread support from other parents who take the time to get dressed before taking their youngsters to school.
