Gov. Snyder names experts to study Flint water
Residents of several towns in neighboring in are collecting bottled water.
In 2016, it is our national responsibility to hold the offenders accountable, to help the residents of Flint as much as possible and to prevent this from happening to any other community. To do so, the companies will send 176 truckloads of bottled water – up to 6.5 million bottles – to Flint.
Calling it “outrageous” that Flint residents are being forced to pay for water that is unsafe to drink, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said Monday that he may take steps to halt the charges, reports NBC News.
The disgrace over Flint’s water, the Republican presidential prospect told ABC’s “This Week”, “is related to the fact that we’ve created this complex, no-responsibility regulatory system, where the federal government, the state government, a regional government, local and county governments are all pointing fingers at one another”.
Flint was under state oversight in 2014 when it switched from Detroit water to the Flint River to save money.
On top of millions of dollars in pledged governmental aid, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, companies large and small, the rich and famous, and many other individuals all have targeted Flint for significant charitable giving – in the form of money and millions of bottles of water.

Michael Moore can blame Rick Snyder all he wants, but the real buck stops with the Democrat local authorities, who tried to bury concerns and failed to take the easy action required to solve the problem. The source has since been switched back, but experts say the damage appears to have already been done. There is no safe amount of lead-contaminated water – any amount of ingested lead can result in abdominal pain, constipation, miscarriage, headaches, memory loss and high blood pressure, among other ailments. Significantly, most city governments that have been handed over to emergency managers are largely African-American.
He announced that the state would have an increased administrative presence in Flint and called it the beginning of a long-term effort. The water contained corrosive elements that caused lead in the pipes to leech into the water.
Flint’s plight has attracted plenty of celebrity donors as well: Cher and Icelandic Water are contributing more than 181,000 bottles of water to help alleviate what she calls a “tragedy of staggering proportions”.
“The best part about all of this is that its just not a one person idea”, said City Councilor Wes Bellamy. This is all very good news for the water-strapped citizens of Flint.
But the water wasn’t properly treated for corrosion, and lead began leaching from aging pipes into the drinking water.
The state chose to temporarily switch Flint’s water source from Lake Huron to the Flint River as a cost-saving measure until a new supply line to Lake Huron was ready.
Activists are due to give testimony at the United Nations next week about water shutoffs in Detroit, Michigan as well as lead contamination in neighboring Flint’s drinking water.
Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette has hired an outside legal team to do a criminal investigation into the Snyder administration’s handling of the Flint water crisis.
