New lawsuit seeks to replace Flint’s lead pipes

Horwitz said the kinds of things that could come out of the hearings range from a report summarizing the testimony, a report with findings and recommendations, to “filing a lawsuit in circuit court alleging discrimination and demanding remedial action be taken if it were found that discrimination had taken place”. MI law states that parents are neglectful if they do not have running water in their home, and if they chose not to pay for water they can’t drink anyway, then they could be guilty of child endangerment. Mayor Dayne Walling also approved the plan, and emergency manager Ed Kurtz signed off. Four days earlier, Flint had received approval from state Treasurer Andy Dillon to proceed with the pipeline project. Snyder said Wednesday that he could not give a date for when the city’s residents would be able to cease their dependence on bottled water.
Councilwoman-at-Large Lisa Sarty asked if there was a way for the water testing results to be posted on the city’s website, similar to the way microcystin-lr in Lake Erie’s algal blooms is tested for nearly daily in the summer and posted online when results are available.
Bellamy connected with leaders in the Hampton Roads area who will be traveling to Flint and hand-delivering cases of water. “Once we have more accurate numbers from the Flint Water Department, we will revisit what is right for our citizens”. “This contamination poses an ongoing health risk to city residents, especially young children who are most vulnerable to the effects of lead”, the lawsuit.
The Louisville Water Company says they hope have the remaining removed by 2025.

“The crisis in Flint is not an isolated incident”. This flies in the face of Governor Snyder’s claim that the DWSD had terminated its service contract with the City of Flint, forcing the switch to river water.

Under normal circumstances, the lack of running water in a home could certainly serve as grounds to initiate an investigation or even trigger removal of children from their home until basic living conditions are restored to the satisfaction of agencies tasked with ensuring children are safe from abusive or neglectful homes. The statement noted that Coca-Cola has donated almost 80,000 bottles of Dasani and that Nestle Waters North America has donated more than 190,000 bottles to Flint community organizations.
