Truck Wheels Fly Off and Strike Vehicle
“The GMC Yukon was travelling northbound Highway 400, north of King Road, when a transport truck that was travelling southbound lost a set of dual wheels”, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said at the scene.
A male suffered life-threatening injuries after a flying tire struck a vehicle on Highway 400 near King City Wednesday morning.
One of the wheels has been recovered but police were still searching for the second as of around noon.
The driver of the SUV was trapped in the vehicle and was originally presumed dead but was airlifted to hospital conscious with life-threatening injuries.
An air ambulance took the driver to hospital.
“Obviously there is no time for the driver to be able to react and see that”.
Both southbound and northbound lanes of Highway 400 between King Road and Aurora Road have now reopened following an earlier incident which saw the wheel of a transport truck smash into an SUV.
“Even one wheel is a couple hundred pounds of steel that is coming toward you at maybe 100 kilometres per hour”.
