World’s Worst Father Brings Baby Along For Bullfight
In the photo, shared on Instagram this week, Rivera is seen torturing a wounded bull with one hand while carrying his baby daughter, Carmen, in the other. “My father also used to bullfight like this with me, and I have done it with my daughters Cayetana and now Carmen”.
Francisco “Paquirri” Rivera says he is just doing what his father did and his father’s father did, but a child protection agency has made an official complaint after the Spanish bullfighter posted a photo of him training in the ring while holding his baby daughter. She’s the fifth generation of bullfighters in our family.
Even comedian and animal rights campaigner Ricky Gervais joined in the debate, tweeting: “Mental, unsafe & cruel”.
“We’re totally against instilling violence like that of bullfighting into children”, said Laura Duarte, spokeswoman of Pacma, a party opposed to the mistreatment of animals which backs a total ban on bullfighting.
The picture has sparked an investigation by the Child Protection Agency in Andalusia, as well as widespread condemnation.
The proud matador then elaborated on what a joyful occasion it was for the entire family as little Carmen got a chance to watch her daddy fight a bull.
Rivera, 42, responded to the criticism on Twitter, saying his daughter will never be safer than when she is with him. “We will gather information to analyze possible action”, they said.
Shortly after sharing that image, which produced a bevy of negative comments, Rivera followed up with another photo showing himself in a similar scene with his father, who was also a bullfighter.
Mr Rivera was recently gored in the groin by a bull but has since recovered.
Francisco’s father died during a bullfight in 1984, and Francisco himself underwent life-saving surgery after he was gored by a bull only previous year.
