La galaxy announce ashley cole signing
Speaking to the Galaxy’s official website, head coach Bruce Arena said: “Ashley is one of the world’s most successful defenders and has played at the highest level of competition throughout his career”.
The 35-year-old defender, a longtime fixture on England’s national team, had been connected to an MLS move for some time.
Cole, who played for Arsenal and Chelsea before his move to Rome, started just 11 Serie A games in his 18 months at the club, and did not play a single minute this season.
Cole has not featured for Roma since March a year ago and made a total of 16 appearances for the club since joining from Chelsea in 2014.
“We know that doesn’t necessarily translate on the field when you come to Major League Soccer, but my interactions over the last couple of months show me he’s a player that has a strong desire to play here in Los Angeles”. He went on to make 228 total appearances, winning two Premier League Titles and three FA Cups for the North London side.
Despite bringing in the likes of Giovani dos Santos and Steven Gerrard, the Los Angeles Galaxy had a rather disappointing season in 2015.
Cole is the latest veteran to sign with the Galaxy this offseason, as the team also added Belgian defender Jelle Van Damme, 32, goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, 33, midfielder Jeff Larentowicz, 32, and forward Mike Magee, 31.
