Donald Trump Rips Megyn Kelly, Fox News During ‘O’Reilly Factor’ Interview
In the wake of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s decision to sit out Thursday evening’s debate due to his assertion that host network Fox News has been unfair to him, pundits have argued whether the move will hurt or help the unconventional candidate’s campaign.
Senator Cruz doubled-down, like Denny Crane (William Shatner) from the old NBC series Boston Legal, sensing a bloody opening, calling for a mano-a-mano, one-on-one debate, and revealing the real reason he thinks Trump backed out: to avoid a substantive, feet-to-fire, Cruz-missile assault on Trump’s suitability for the office of commander in chief.
After his announcement about skipping the debate Tuesday night, his opponents on Wednesday mocked him.
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump dropped out of Thursday night’s GOP debate, just days before the Iowa caucuses.
For about a week in September, Trump boycotted all Fox shows, and he has continued complaining about Kelly on Twitter.
According to the RealClearPolitics average of Iowa polls, Paul has 3.7 percent support, putting him in a tie with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in the state but well behind Trump, Texas Sen. I think she is frankly not good at what she does.
“These kinds theatrics by Ted Cruz and Donald Trump are an entertaining sideshow, but they have nothing to do with defeating Hillary Clinton”, Rubio said in a statement.
Do they attack Trump in absentia, or does that look weak?
The Putin statement was a tipping point and “clearly created to incite”, Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, told radio host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday.
It will be Cruz, however, who takes centre stage today with six other Republicans in Des Moines without Trump, who will leave a glaring hole. Trump tweeted, referencing Cruz’s birthplace. After the first Republican primary debate, where she’d challenged Trump on his history of sexist behavior, he responded with what was widely taken to be a vulgar implication that Kelly was menstruating at the time.
It said the leaders of Iran and Russian Federation “both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president” and said “Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings”. In politics, his wager on a brash, attacking style has paid off. Now, just days before the Iowa caucus, he’s betting that he’s bigger than Fox News.
Fox News Chairman, Roger Ailes, defended Ms Kelly telling The Washington Post: “Megyn Kelly is an excellent journalist, and the entire network stands behind her. She will absolutely be on the debate stage on Thursday night”.
The campaign said that more details would be forthcoming. “I think it would be to his benefit to show up”.
Cruz’s campaign got the rights to a website – MakeTrumpDebateAgain.com – and began selling hats with the phrase, a play on Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again”. Trump didn’t commit to that, and even objected to O’Reilly asking him such a question. “Ted Cruz could choose to do it if he wants to”.
