Rick Perry Endorses Ted Cruz for President
Politico reports that people familiar with the conversation Cruz had with the 43rd president said Cruz had a whole list of things he would like to accomplish in a Bush administration.
But when pressed about Cruz’s ability to be president with his contentious legislative history, Perkins noted that “if everyone gets along with you in this city, you’re in trouble”. “But the electorate doesn’t want that”.
In terms of criticism that Cruz, a first-term senator, is relatively inexperienced at political executive experience, Perry said the firebrand lawmaker would rise to the occasion.
“Our nation faces exponential threats, and over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside Marco Rubio on issues critical to our national security”, Ernst said in a statement. Perry will campaign with Cruz Tuesday across Iowa, and will join Iowa Representative Steve King to stump for Cruz on Wednesday.
Perry sought the Republican nomination for both 2012 and 2016. A senator since 2013, Cruz didn’t serve personally in the military.
Our guess is this emphasis is meant to counterbalance the impact of Trump’s recent television advertisement – which blasted Cruz for being weak on immigration reform. I’m going to basically say, ‘You know what? By the time he dropped out of the race, Perry’s campaign was effectively dead in the water.
Perry also helped Cruz with swatting away some of the attacks that have come his way recently, including the charge that he is soft on illegal immigration.
The move marks the first endorsement from a candidate forced out of the Republican race.
In the past week, Sarah Palin endorsed Trump’s campaign, and the influential Iowa newspaper the Des Moines Register endorsed Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Hillary Clinton.
