Possible Tornado Touches Down in Florida
CBS4’s Gaby Fleischman said at Broward College’s north campus several cars were toppled or sent flying onto either vehicles.
Officials with the National Weather Service have confirmed that two tornadoes touched down on the east coast today – one in Coconut Creek, and another near Broward College.
Palm Beach County roads went largely untouched as severe winds and rain tore through South Florida on Wednesday morning, but roads in northern Broward County experienced multiple wrecks.
“The threat is not over”, Moses said.
“No one was injured at this scene”, Cabrera said.
Authorities are investigating an apparent tornado touchdown in Coconut Creek, Florida, that injured at least one person, flipped over cars and damaged the roof of a condo complex.
Only one person suffered minor injuries.
The storm produced significant damage along the turnpike, where it downed a power line and caused structural damage to an apartment building in the Wynmoor retirement community.
Officials say a possible tornado picked up a southbound vehicle on Florida’s Turnpike and dropped it in the northbound lanes. A tractor trailer caught in the twister was reportedly turned over onto its side.
“There were six crashes and an unknown number of injuries”, Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.
Channel 9 Meteorologist Brian Shields said weather data isn’t conclusive yet, but “it definitely looks like it was a tornado”.
