NickToons movie in the works with Napoleon Dynamite director
Real Monsters and more.
Paramount has used one or two characters from the Nickelodeon channel it has corporate links to for films, including SpongeBob SquarePants and Rugrats.
According to Deadline, Jared Hess is on board to direct the film, and will also serve as writer alongside his wife, Jarusha Hess.
The NickToons movie will be produced by Mary Parent and Cale Boyter through their Disruption Entertainment.
With studios continuing their efforts to build film universes out of their branded properties, Paramount is now looking to take advantage of its classic Nickelodeon cartoon library to do something similar. Think of it like Who Framed Roger Rabbit? but for people who are hugely committed to remembering the ’90s. Nickelodeon has done crossover movies with its properties before, for example when it brought together boy genius Jimmy Neutron (Who I miss dearly) and Timmy Turner of the Fairly OddParents for the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour TV movie trilogy. It also isn’t known if the original voice actors from each show are being sought to reprise their roles. His next film, Masterminds, was originally supposed to come out last summer, but was pushed to September 30 of this year, due to Relativity Media’s bankruptcy proceedings.
