Curry’s triple-double leads Warriors to win in Kerr’s return
On Friday night, Warriors’ head coach, Steve Kerr returned to the bench for the first time since last year’s NBA Championship win against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Cleveland.
Steph Curry led the Warriors with 39 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. He launched one just a few steps from the opposite 3-point line and swished it just after the first-quarter buzzer. When the Warriors’ offense sputtered in the second half, the team kept a comfortable lead in large part because Green repeatedly denied George (5-15) and other Pacers quality opportunities.
The Warriors then took on the Indiana Pacers, looking to improve their league-best record to 40-4, and, as usual, there were other bursts of Oracle applause and moments of great Warriors satisfaction.
Spurs 108, Lakers 95: LOS ANGELES – Manu Ginobili scored a season-high 20 points, Kawhi Leonard added 18 and San Antonio won its 13th straight.
Could the routine, half the season with Luke Walton as interim head coach, have led the Warriors starting shooting guard to approach the wrong guy out of habit? It feels like a first game of a season.
“How’s your back?” Kerr said. The reigning MVP shimmied after his half-court shot and pounded his chest following his 201st 3-pointer at the 6:26 mark of the third quarter. Golden State had 17 turnovers leading to 23 IN points, a number that could’ve been much higher had the Warriors not excelled at broken plays leading to ridiculous bucket after ridiculous bucket.
“If they do it by the normal rule, then Gregg Popovich will be going to Toronto, and I know how excited Pop is to coach another All-Star Game”, Kerr said sarcastically. Although the Golden State Warriors started off strong right from the beginning of the season, their success has not come easy.
This season the Golden State Warriors are having a historic run.
Speaking of coaches, it’s ironic that Kerr is back at the helm on the same day as another coach that got the ax!
The Warriors couldn’t get comfortable until Draymond Green ripped away the ball for a steal and passed it to Curry for a 3-pointer that made it 109-96 with 4:15 left.
“He’s very confident in his offensive game”, Pacers coach Frank Vogel said of Turner.
But Curry countered immediately with a straight-away 3-pointer with 28.4 seconds left, before sending the crowd into a halftime frenzy with his 48-footer after a Glenn Robinson III miss.
“Special night”, Green said of Kerr’s return. Victor Oladipo scored 29 points for the Magic, which has lost five straight and nine of 10. The Pacers got back into the game thanks to a 33-14 edge in bench points in the half. The wire-to-wire victory was the Warriors’ fourth of the season….
“Just being on the road with the team it really felt like I turned a corner on this road trip”.
