Eli: One game shouldn’t affect Peyton’s legacy

But since Peyton Manning hasn’t said anything about his plans, not even to his own brother (so Eli says), we’re left to look for clues like Peyton telling Bill Belichick after the AFC championship game that it might be his “last rodeo”. But he got the opportunity against the Chargers, led them to a win and has played well.

“He has not said anything to me about it”, Eli Manning said on a conference call.

Peyton’s story, of course, has only gotten stranger since the regular season ended.

Al Jazeera reported that Manning was treated with human growth hormone during his recovery from neck surgery in 2011 when he played for Indianapolis Colts.

Eli said he will be at Super Bowl 50, as will the whole Manning family.

We want to think Eli is being untruthful there, but we kind of believe him. It was odd to hear Eli Manning say that rings shouldn’t be the sole measure of a quarterback, because while that’s true, Eli Manning’s Hall-of-Fame debate will be built around the fact he has two Super Bowl rings.

That’s what happens when you’re matched up against one of the NFL’s premiere sack artists in the biggest game of the year.

“So I hope he can win”.

Peyton’s legacy is a natural talking point as he approaches what might be his final game, but Eli doesn’t believe too much should be put into one game against the Panthers.

“I might go there and do some things, but it’s going to be a tough one to swallow”, he said.
