Pardew happy as Crystal Palace enjoy victory over SuperSport
Mile Jedinak has continued Australia’s scoring spree in pre-season with the Socceroos skipper on target in Crystal Palace’s 4-0 win over Supersport United in South Africa.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to the side’s progress to the final of the Cape Town Cup.
Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he intends to sign more players before the summer transfer window closes.
Pardew agreed, and had some words of advice for SuperSport. We had some good performers today, Jordon Mutch had a good game, Chungy was the man of the match and Jason Puncheon – they were probably our three standout players. But Palace would take the lead a few seconds later, when the resultant corner was headed in by Crystal Palace captain Jedinak.
Midfielder Jordon Mutch made it 3-0 on 28 minutes with a brilliant run beyond two defenders and scoring with an audacious lob over Williams.
Matsatsantsa couldn’t muster up any meaningful chances on goal in the first half and they went into the half time break, 4-0 down.
As for the overall test with a mind to it being pre season, Pardew knows it wasn’t much of a test in the first half given our dominance but he believed our opposition had the better of the second period and by rights should’ve scored at least once over those 45 minutes so on balance it was a decent test.
Fraizer Campbell struggled for first-team starts last season but managed to grab a goal. New signing Cabaye was brought on in the 59th minute and immediately made his presence felt by testing Ronwin Williams with a long range effort.
It was a much better showing from SuperSport in the 2nd half but the damage had already been done by Palace in the first half.
“It’ll be good for us to gauge ourselves against top South African opposition and obviously Sporting Lisbon are a good side if they get to the final”.
