Red Bulls sending Matt Miazga to Chelsea team
New York Red Bulls young centre-half Matt Miazga is set to join Chelsea.
The Polish-American defender who is highly rated in America received offers from other Premier League clubs such as Leicester and Stoke earlier.
The 30-year-old is one of Chelsea’s most successful players having won five major trophies, including the Champions League, Europa League and Premier League, since joining from Bolton for £7million four years ago.
The young center back has been with the Red Bulls since 2009 and has made 34 appearances since joining the senior squad in 2013.
Chelsea FC fans can be forgiven for not getting excited about this potential signing from MLS because the standard of defending in the league is so poor.
Miazga had been with the U.S. team ahead of upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Canada, but ESPN reports he has already left, heading to England for a medical.
The Red Bulls’ academy product has impressed at all levels for the United States, including a solid showing during the U20 World Cup past year, despite his side’s exit at the Quarter Final stage.
The 20-year-old signed with an agency backed by Kia Joorabchian in the spring of 2015 and is represented specifically by former Blackburn, Tottenham and QPR defender Ryan Nelsen.
Miazga, who has recently broken into the USA men’s national team as his stock rises rapidly, is ready to make the move overseas now rather than wait for his contract with NY to end after this season, according to ESPNFC. “I really want to play in Chelsea”. “I believe my skillset fits the way football is played there”.
