Huge Forest Fire Ravages 6,000 Acres in Northern California
Officials tell CBS San Francisco the fire apparently started when a auto caught on fire on Highway 128.
Her home is one of 150 under a mandatory evacuation order. It has already destroyed one building and damaged a home.
The fire came really close to a house blazing right through where someone likes to relax and take in the view, but firefighters saved it along with countless others in the evacuated Quail Canyon area. The highway is also closed at County Road 89. The RED CROSS has opened an Evacuation Center at the Winters Community Center, 201 Railroad Ave, Winters, CA.
“The fire has remained consist, in traveling, at a rapid rate of spread”.
Officials say the fire, which they believe is the result of a traffic accident, is burning in brush-covered terrain that is rugged, steep and hard to access. Agencies that have personnel fighting the fire are eligible to apply for reimbursement of 75 percent of costs associated with the firefight. Road closures are still in place.
“It was a hard night overnight”, said a spokeswoman for Cal Fire.
Winds calmed Thursday afternoon, giving firefighters a better chance against the fire, which was 15 percent contained. Park officials shuttled visitors to safety and scoured the backcountry for hikers in the fire zone.
200 structures threatened in the Quail Ridge Community. “Fire crews continue to make progress”.
A 6,000 acre wildfire burning in Napa and Solano Counties has sent visible smoke into many areas of the Northstate. A large animal evacuation center is also opened in the area.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, and at this time there is no estimate for when the fire will be fully contained. Four hundred firefighters are now at the scene.
