NAACP to Tell Plan for Lead-Tainted Flint Water
He says the state is working to ensure all kids are tested.

He says Snyder listened to the proposals, which include putting Flint’s youth to work distributing water and creating a victims’ fund. Concerns about the water first surfaced in April 2014, when in an effort to save money, officials began drawing the city’s water from the Flint River, instead of relying on water from Detroit. Lead causes permanent brain damage in children, as well as other health problems.
Snyder announced Wednesday that he had appointed 17 health and environmental experts to a committee tasked with finding a long-term solution to the water crisis.
Smitherman said he was been told by the water department that numerous lead pipes are in low income neighborhoods.
The law lets the state appoint a manager to control a local government or school district’s finances.
Majority Republicans favor the law. So today, a substantial number of service lines, distribution lines, and household water pipes in American communities are made of lead. Replacing the lines could cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
The Flint Water Crisis has dragged on for months and years.
“It’s a lot of work to take out pipes, to redo all the infrastructure”, Snyder said.
The state’s environment department approved the switch even though the city’s treatment plant was not able to produce water that met state and federal standards.
Flint resident Judy Sears says she is grateful to all of them.

It was Edwards who independently tested 280 samples of Flint water and determined that the levels of lead coming out of 40 percent of the city’s home faucets was higher than legally acceptable levels. She added that he will be “fully independent”, report to her and get paid through private donations.
Roehre herself will be donating water when she arrives in Flint.
The state Senate is expected to approve a $28 million supplemental budget request earmarked for the water crisis.

Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has been a focus of criticism, but Schuette said political affiliations would not be a factor. “Relief workers are calling us, at Virginia Tech, and asking us to talk to residents who are refusing to bathe or shower because they are so scared and they don’t trust what the state and federal government are saying about the water being safe for bathing and showering”, Edwards says.
“Everyone in this country deserves and expects safe drinking water, regardless of your race, economic status or zip code”, Pastor Allen Overton of Concerned Pastors for Social Action said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.
