Lawyer claims Planned Parenthood illegally sold fetal tissue
Anderson has come under considerably fire for what pro-life advocates call a politically motivated indictment and because a Planned Parenthood board member works for Anderson as an assistant district attorney.
Tuesday, a Texas grand jury decided against indicting Planned Parenthood and instead indicted two of the videographers on charges of tampering with a government record, a felony that can carry 20 years in prison. The felony charge was in reference to the use of a fake ID.
Planned Parenthood has said a few clinics in two states used to accept legally allowed reimbursement for the costs of providing tissue donated by some of its abortion clients.
Sign the petition urging the Harris County DA and Grand Jury to drop the charges and David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt.
Representative Jan Schakowsky, the top Democrat on the House panel investigating the organization, has said Republicans now should admit they are wrong in the wake of the indictment. An independent investigation showed that the video was substantially manipulated to make it seem as if Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast was engaged in wrongdoing, according to the Dallas Observer. “Both the District Attorney and the grand jury prosecutor were unduly influenced by Lewis’ hatred of Operation Rescue”. On Monday, a grand jury in Harris County, Texas, went a step further.
Last week, Planned Parenthood filed a federal racketeering lawsuit against Daleiden and Merritt, along with the Center for Medical Progress and BioMax, and several others identified as helping create the videos.
Yet despite all the evidence, Texas’ Republican governor, Greg Abbott, said Monday that the state attorney general’s office and the State Health and Human Services Commission would continue investigating Planned Parenthood.
Schaffer, Planned Parenthood’s attorney, also told the Washington Post that Daleiden made an offer via e-mail to purchase fetal tissue from Planned Parenthood for $1,600. As reported by Breitbart News’ Austin Ruse, it shows the director of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Melissa Farrell, discussing the sale of whole intact aborted babies and discussing the altering of the abortion process in order to obtain whole intact babies.
Gov. Dan Patrick publicly asked the Harris County District Attorney to open a criminal investigation into a Houston Planned Parenthood clinic, it was seen as just the latest ploy to block Texas women to access reproductive care.
Nonetheless, she said the felony charge for “tampering with a governmental document” is appropriate for the use of false identification – although under state law, a jury may only charge someone with a second-degree felony “if the actor’s intent in committing the offense was to defraud or harm another”.
Many other young women, like Drew Thompson, who don’t support abortion agree and don’t believe Planned Parenthood should receive any cuts in funding. Josh Schaffer, who represents Planned Parenthood, said that Daleiden sent Planned Parenthood an email after the meetings offering to buy fetal tissue in June. After their release, Republican presidential candidates, including Rubio, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and Carly Fiorina, quickly cited the tapes as new reason to defund Planned Parenthood, announcing themselves sickened. “If that need arises we will have them appear”.
