Rihanna releases new album, ‘ANTI,’ on Jay Z’s Tidal service
The R&B star released the record two days early on Wednesday night (27Jan16) when the tracklisting and song snippets were briefly posted on Jay Z’s streaming music and video website Tidal, and it was an instant success. Fortunately for the fans, after the album was successfully ripped from TIDAL by some courageous tech genius, Rihanna‘s camp chose to give the album out early-offering some copies for free, while inadvertently trapping those who downloaded it into signing up for a free 60 day TIDAL subscription.
Tidal released the 13-track standard version this evening, and will be followed by the 16-track deluxe edition on January 29, reports Fader. Rihanna released “ANTI†on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, on the streaming service. 27, Rihanna tweeted a link to her first single from the album, “Work” featuring Drake.
The singer released the first single, Work, on Wednesday to mixed reviews with some people saying they didn’t understand the lyrics. You can’t have a Rihanna album without a weed anthem. Unlike the stunning “Bitch Better Have My Money”, which aggressively took RiRi’s street style to new heights, “Work” is more mainstream. Relief is found in long-time collaborator Drake’s monotonous wordplay, which slides in perfectly for a much-needed break during the bridge, and manages to avoid feeling like a last minute addition in a way that most features tend to.
On Twitter, after the song’s debut, Rihanna called it the first single from Anti, although three tracks preceded it past year. Anti does not include FourFiveSeconds, a song that Rihanna released a year ago in a collaboration with Paul McCartney and Kanye West. However, if you’re looking for “Anti” on iTunes or Spotify, you won’t find it there until next week. Work (feat. Drake) 5.
This is the longest amount of time that Rihanna fans have had to wait for a new album from the singer.
The album has not even been available for 24 hours yet, and it has already been confirmed by TIDAL in a press release that the album has been streamed nearly 14 million times!
