Tinder taps Giphy to let you court strangers with animated GIFs
If you lack any semblance of creativity or inspiration, Tinder will even help you out and surface which GIFs are now trending. Tinder has now bought into the Internet-wide fallacy that GIFs do in fact get at something which language still can’t quite hack.
While the.gif messaging opens the door for malfeasance (animated dick pics, anyone?), I think it’s inclusion is more an indication that Tinder is aware of how people communicate in 2016. That’s the next feature we’d like to see – it would certainly give would-be matches a better picture of you.
That’s right, you can now send your favorite eye roll GIF to that guy who sent you a shirtless picture on Tinder.
Not surprisingly, this was one of Tinder’s most requested features. The update also includes: bigger emojis, and 3D Touch peek and pop actions if you tap on a link in a conversation.
As to the total number of Tinder users, the company didn’t disclose the real figure. Over 10 million matches were made through Tinder in areas affected by the snowstorm over the past weekend, a spokesperson revealed to Fortune on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
All of these updates are nugatory if you’re still not finding that special someone through this social dating site.
With the product launched just in time for Valentines Day, only time will tell it Giphying is set to replace the more traditional ‘Roses are red, violets are blue.’ poems and cards. It’s the peak moment with the majority of its users are active and awake. It’s not their fault, either – when you’re the first to market with a new technology, the novelty will wear off when newer, better competitors enter the space.
Tell your match what you want to do to them when you finally meet them in person… If you wish to have more interactions, then use the app at 9pm.
