Mitchell Pearce to undergo treatment at overseas rehab clinic, Sydney Roosters confirm
Sydney Roosters co-captain Mitchell Pearce has offered a brief statement on Friday afternoon, apologising for his recent actions.
Pearce’s lewd acts has put his NRL future in limbo, with the league believed to be considering ending the 26-year-old’s captaincy with the Roosters, along with a six-game suspension at the start of the season and a fine of $50,000.
“I would like to start by unreservedly apologising for my actions over the last couple of days”, Pearce said.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson said Pearce had apologised to him and his team-mates, but described the behaviour as unacceptable, saying the club and the NRL would discuss the possibility of his sacking over the next few days.
“It is not an excuse but a realisation that I finally need help”.
Mitchell Pearce has left Australia for a rehabilitation centre.
In the video, Pearce appears to try to kiss a woman, who accuses him of wetting himself after rejecting his advances, before he allegedly simulated a sex act on a dog.
This should be the end of his career.
Person 2: I had to google Mitchell Pearce!
“The final message reads: “… they were with us at the oak and they were pretty normal… then they jumped a cab with me back to hers and went f… g ape shit!
The NRL said on its Twitter feed that its integrity unit was in possession of the alleged texts but it wouldn’t be commenting until its investigation was over.
The players had been on a club-sanctioned harbour cruise on Australia Day before going to the Royal Oak in Woollahra, where they were given Cabcharge cards from Roosters officials and told to go home.
The NSW State of Origin five-eighth has been stood down indefinitely from club activities while the Roosters investigate the events that led to the airing of footage of him simulating a sex act with a dog. “I just want to thank everyone for turning up and I apologise again”.
Pearce, who is involved in off-field troubles for the second time in two years, is also expected to be booted out of the Roosters’ UK trip for the World Club Challenge, which starts on February 21.
