Russell Wilson Reportedly Offered $21Milion Multi-Year Contract Extension
The Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson inch toward the deadline to do a contract extension, and the two sides have plenty of ground to make up. Ideally, the quarterback would make a lot more than that. When it comes to his contract, we’ve heard everything from Wilson wants to be in Seattle for a “really, really long time”, to he wants to be the NFL’s highest paid quarterback.
Seattle reportedly offered Wilson “a package worth almost $21 million per year with significant guaranteed money”, ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reported Saturday. What it seems to indicate is that Wilson feels he should be paid more than Aaron Rodgers, which is a fact most NFL analysts and fans would disagree with.
If Russell Wilson turned down $21 million a season, he’s nuts.
For instance, the Panthers gave Cam Newton $30 million cash up front in his new extension. Sorry. Specifics of the contract haven’t been released, but the report says it would be over a 4-6 year period.
The Seahawks begin training camp Friday, July 31.
Still, that doesn’t mean that Wilson will walk in the future.
Worst case (if you can even call it that): the Seahawks franchise Wilson next spring and he’ll have to play on a one-year deal for something north of million.
If no deal is put in place during the offseason, Wilson will enter the 2015 NFL season with a salary at $1.54 million.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there are a number of NFL analysts, general managers, and coaches that don’t think Russell Wilson is a top-tier quarterback.
