Rihanna Premieres Long-Awaited New Album on Tidal Streaming Service
Rihanna released the first single from her highly-anticipated new album “ANTI” Wednesday morning. Now, the numbers are in, and simply put, they are massive.
Following Billboard magazine’s Tuesday report that the Barbadian pop singer’s album would arrive sometime before Friday, Rihanna has quietly unleashed ANTI on the world. Last night, in a surprise move, Rihanna released the album as a free download for a limited time.
Rihanna co-owns Tidal, which has struggled to match its competitors, along with Madonna, Beyonce, Usher and other acts.
The Barbados-born singer quickly became one of the 21st century’s top-selling artists after releasing her debut album in 2005. Titled “Work”-and featuring frequent professional collaborator and former romantic collaborator Drake-the song was released exclusively on Tidal (causing bloggers and Rihanna fans across the realm to finally give in and make Tidal accounts)”. On Jan. 29, a 16-track deluxe version will be available.
A tidal wave of leaks of songs and snippets from ANTI hit social media and blog sites minutes after eagle-eyed RiRi fans spotted the accidentally uploaded album.
Rihanna had originally been planning to release the record last November (15) but various delays pushed the date back.
Earlier this week, Rihanna tweeted that she was listening to her much-delayed new album ANTI, implying its release was imminent.
The North American leg of the tour kicks off of February 26 in San Diego and ends May 7 in Oakland. It was supposed to be the first single.
In October 2015, the cover and title of the album were released. The UK leg of the Anti world tour starts in June, with her first stop in Coventry.
