Nnamdi Kanu’s bail application denied
There was a mild drama at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday as a team of lawyers, numbering about fifteen and working for the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu withdrew from the ongoing case.
The trial of Nnamdi Kanu and the two other accused persons has been fixed for the 6th to 12th of February.
The Federal Government had alleged that the accused persons committed treasonable felony by spear-heading an illegal agitation for the seccession of “Biafra Republic” from Nigeria, an offence punishable under Section 41(C) of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
The Court denied Kanu and his two other co-accused bail.
Ahead of sitting today (Friday) January 29, Mr. Kanu had penned to the court asking that there should be a change in his representation.
On the other hand, the Judge said the argument of the defence counsel is that the defendants’ action constitutes agitation and dissent.
Udechukwu admitted he had impersonated the lead counsel at previous hearings.
According to Kanu, the person who represented him in previous sittings was different from the person he had instructed.
In protest, Udechukwu announced that he was standing down, and asked the court to strike out his name as Kanu’s counsel.
Speaking to newsmen after the session, Chief Chucks Muoma (SAN), counsel to the applicants said the decision would be appealed.
He therefore prayed the court to record his apology for the said offence, and that the court should note that he was withdrawing from the case.
