Patriots sign P Allen to three-year extension
As said by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New England signed punter Ryan Allen to a 3-year contract extension.
If you need to be sold on Allen any further, just look at this monstrous punt he pulled off against the Detroit Lions in Week 12.
Allen enters his third NFL season, all spent with the Patriots.
The Patriots drafted long snapper Joe Cardona out of the U.S. Naval Academy in the fifth round of this year’s draft, but it’s unclear if he’ll be allowed to play this season because of his military obligations. Ryan also was 12th in the NFL in 2014 with a 39.9 net punting average. Belichick is of the belief that lefty punters are more likely to produce better angled punts in short-field situations, and thus has historically utilized left-footed punters while with the Patriots.
Allen has been rewarded for his form with a three-year contract extension, which includes the option to re-negotiate the deal after the first two years, reports NFL Network. With Gostkowski and Allen signed, that may be the only question facing the Patriots in the kicking game for a few years.
