Hundreds attend Mass at Detroit church, protest group’s announced unveiling of
Satan is finally getting his due in Detroit thanks to Saturday night’s unveiling of a much-maligned statue of Baphomet.
A group is planning to unveil an 8-foot-tall bronze statue featuring a goat-headed Satan in Detroit during a gathering that’s being billed as the “largest public satanic ceremony in history”. “Come dance with the Devil and experience history in the making”, WWJ added. Weighing one ton and towering at almost nine feet tall, the bronze statue is not only an unparalleled artistic triumph, but stands as a testament to plurality and the power of collective action.
The event is open only to prepaid ticket holders.
Participant Michael Voris says the event was “a show of faith”. “The mission of The Satanic Temple is to encourage benevolence and empathy among all people”, the group’s website states.
“The statue was to be unveiled at Bert’s Marketplace in Detroit’s Eastern Market district, but Bert Dearing said he gave the group back its $3,000 rental fee when he learned who booked the place.”
Tickets for the unveiling are $25 for general admission. “I don’t think it’s anything we should be afraid of at all, we don’t need to cower in fear – we have the truth on our side as Christians”. The Oklahoma Supreme Court recently ruled the 10 Commandments monument violates a section of the state constitution that bans the use of state property for the benefit of a religion.
And why Detroit? Because the city apparently has a robust Satanic Temple congregation, with more than 200 registered members, WWJ said. When the Satanic Temple announced its plans to erect the statue in Oklahoma City, critics erupted, and some even said that the sculpture’s proponents “should be shot”.
