Local pro Scott Brown leads Farmer’s Insurance Open after round one
Brown, who resides in Aiken, South Carolina, leads the Farmers Insurance Open by one shot after round one.
With Tiger Woods out of the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open, new names will get to step into the spotlight when Round 1 tees off early Thursday morning on the Golf Channel cable TV network and PGA Tour live streaming.
His previous form at Torrey Pines offers little encouragement with a best of T42 in five appearances but he will be highly motivated this week and after a five birdie back nine to shoot 66 in the third round last week he is clearly hitting the ball well enough to score.
San Diego – Scott Brown and Phil Mickelson both had reason to believe it could be a long day on the South Course at Torrey Pines.
San Diego native Phil Mickelson, a three-time victor at Torrey Pines, shot a three-under 69 at the South Course and stands tied for 15th. Here’s a look at how the two courses stack up side-by-side and you’ll be able to get a better idea of how much harder the South Course is.
“When I was playing in college I was always striving to turn pro and play golf on a professional tour and I was excited to get my European Tour card back in November”. That was one shot better than Rickie Fowler, who won Sunday in Abu Dhabi and couldn’t buy a putt on the North Course in his round of 73.
Loupe notched his 66 on the North Course, which played more than two strokes easier than the South. Heading into the Farmers Insurance Open he was bubbling with confidence after finishing in a tie for third in the CareerBuilder Challenge in his 2016 debut, where he made 22 birdies and an eagle. “If you’re out of position, you just have to kind of play for par or bogey and (try to avoid) any big numbers….”
Of feeling any nerves, Ruffels said, “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be”. “I really enjoy playing tough golf courses – tough US Open courses”.
While going for the 18th green in two shots, Lovemark’s approach hit the bank and rolled back toward the pond that guards the green. It was a continuation of a lot of great results and memories for Day at Torrey Pines starting with a win at the World Junior Championships in 2004, a 9th place finish in this event in 2013 and a runner-up finish in 2014. I just needed to be patient.
Day’s victory in a four-way playoff in the 2015 tournament began a big year for the Australian, who won four other tournaments and had 11 top 10 finishes.
He’s played five PGA Tour rounds since the offseason tinkering. You can play the par 3s and par4s even (or even over par) and still end up in the top 10.
