Braxton Miller Drawing Interest As Second Round Pick In 2016 NFL Draft
Ohio State wide receiver Braxton Miller (1) runs through drills…
“I’ve been doing what I really wanted to do”, Miller said of his week.
The Patriots don’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft due to the NFL’s Deflategate punishment. I feel like every team needs somebody who’s an X-factor.
During his sophomore year, Miller led Ohio State to their sixth undefeated season in school history behind a school-record 3,310 yards of total offense and 28 total touchdowns.
Also, consider that Miller probably should be the best receiver at the Senior Bowl, based on his perception even going into the week.
The Senior Bowl is just the first stop for Miller, who will shine throughout the rest of the pre-draft workouts because of his natural athletic ability. “I’m here to show you guys what I’m capable of in terms of playing inside receiver or outside receiver going against the best defensive backs”, said Miller, who battled cramps periodically during the week.
He was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman and sophomore and was considered a Heisman Trophy candidate at quarterback heading into the 2014 season.
Miller uses his size and strength to redirect the cornerback, then fakes him out on an inside-out route before grabbing the ball on a diving catch for a touchdown.
A four-star and the top-rated dual-threat quarterback in the 2011 class out of Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne, Miller plans to utilize the skills he learned playing QB in his new position. His former coach, Urban Meyer expects Miller will run a sub-4.4 40-yard dash.
The biggest part of the transition was more about conditioning than anything else, hence the need to cut out the burgers and fries. “He demonstrated that at Ohio State and to me the strides he’s made in 48 hours has been significant”. It was made four months before (2015 fall) camp started.
“We’re coaching these guys hard and it’s good to see how well he’s responded to that coaching”, Garrett said. “That’s how I think now and all I want to do now is be the best I can possibly be”, Miller said. “Clearly a great athlete and a productive football player and someone that has a lot of upside”. He’s proving that this week at the Senior Bowl.
Odom said Thursday he believed the video was from “a long time ago”, but it was clear Mauk had violated team rules in recent weeks and that was the reason for the dismissal. Leading receiver Michael Thomas only had 56 catches, which tied for 94th in the nation, and he’s a more highly-regarded National Football League prospect than Miller.
