Kim Basinger joins cast of next ‘Fifty Shades’ instalment

Tell us! What do you think of the addition of Kim Basinger to Fifty Shades Darker? It is her character who introduced Grey to the world of BDSM. It’s a minor miracle this film made it to theaters, but it never made it to the screening room. But it’s decidedly lowbrow, overlooking how all involved in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s self-serious James adaptation fancied it as some modern take on Jane Austen.
James Foley is directing both Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed with Niall Leonard adapting both screenplays. And yet, there’s two more movies where that came from, and today brings news that Kim Basinger is in final negotiations to join the sequel Fifty Shades Darker.
Although there are still a number of key parts yet to be cast for Fifty Shades Darker, speculation can now end in regards to the role of Elena Lincoln.
As for Basinger, she’ll be Elena Lincoln, Christian’s business partner and the woman who taught him everything he knows in the boardroom and the bedroom. Costing just $40 million to make, the movie – which starred Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey – ended up grossing $569 million worldwide earlier this year.
Producing the film are Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are produc, they will joining Marcus Viscidi and author E.L. James.
The weekly digital magazine met with Hollywood’s breakout star to talk about leaving L.A.to escape fame, watching her famous parents Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson perform sex scenes with other people on set and crying during the Golden Globes.
Fans will have to wait until next year to see how she reacts to finding out it was a friend of Christian’s mum who sparked his interest in bondage, dominance and submission when he was only 15.
Basinger will next be seen in the crime thriller The Nice Guys, with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, coming out in May.
