Celine Dion supported by son René-Charles at husband’s Montreal wake
Celine Dion was overcome with emotion on Thursday night as she attended her husband, Rene Angelil’s wake at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal.
Dion, 47, arrived in a private auto with her eldest son, Rene-Charles, 14, and her twin sons, Nelson and Eddie, both 5.
Angelil’s wishes were that his funeral service take place at the Basilica, where he Celine Dion in 1994. Rene Charles also stayed close by his mother’s side during his father’s ceremony.
The flag at the legislature in Quebec City will be flying at half-mast Friday, to commemorate the funeral of Rene Angelil. She was seen approaching the casket where she a made a crucifix gesture before gazing at her husband and placing a hand on his cheek.
This sighting comes just two days before Angélil’s funeral, which will be held at the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal.
Singer Celine Dion personally greeted mourners at her husband Rene Angelil’s wake. “All our lives, our dad told us ‘I love you, ‘ and now, more than ever, we are realizing how exceptional it is to have had a dad who never hesitated to say those precious words”, he said. Angelil passed away on January 14 from throat cancer after a long battle with several cancers.
The couple had Wednesday at the same church 21 years ago.
Almost 700 members of the public were permitted to attend the funeral ceremony.
